Final Notice: Compensation for Airport Land Acquisition

The Ministry of Lands and Housing begins final verification for compensation payments to over 1,000 landowners across nine communities.

Following the acquisition of 1,325 hectares for the Abia State International Airport project, the state government has issued a public notice for the commencement of final compensation payments to affected landowners in February 2026.

Affected Communities

The payments cover lands spanning nine communities in Isiala Ngwa North, including Umuala, Umuomainta, and Umuosu. This step follows a rigorous enumeration process intended to ensure fair and transparent reimbursement for crops, structures, and land rights.

Social Impact

The government has reiterated its commitment to community development, promising that the airport will serve as a catalyst for local employment and infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding Nsulu and Nkosi axes.
