Airport Guide / Location
Where is Abia Airport Located?
Abia State International Airport is under construction in Abia State, southeast Nigeria, positioned between the state capital Umuahia and the commercial city of Aba.
Airport Location Overview
Abia State International Airport is being constructed within Abia State in Nigeria's southeast geopolitical zone. The state is bordered by Imo, Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi and Enugu States.
The site has been selected to provide the best possible road access to Abia's two main population centres: Umuahia, the state capital, and Aba, the commercial and manufacturing hub approximately 45 km to the south.
Distances from Key Cities
The following distance estimates are based on the airport site location relative to major cities. Final road distances will depend on the completed access road network.
Estimated Distances to Airport

Why This Location Was Chosen
Abia State has long needed its own airport. The location between Umuahia and Aba reflects a deliberate decision to serve the maximum number of Abia residents.
Aba is one of West Africa's most significant manufacturing centres, particularly for textiles and garments. An airport positioned within reach of Aba opens direct export routes for manufacturers and reduces the logistics overhead currently required to transport goods to Enugu or Owerri airports.
Umuahia's role as the state capital means the airport will also serve government functions, diplomatic travel and the growing business services sector that clusters around state capitals.
Access Roads
Road infrastructure connecting the airport to Umuahia and Aba is part of the overall project development plan. Specific access road routes and timelines will be published on this site as they are confirmed by the Abia State Government.
